KH wearing a Green GAP, a pigeon flying behind with the background of skyscrappers. It was guessed that the BG was NY and the font of "vishwaroopam" stirred a lot of attraction among fans.
May 24 --- Selvaragavan ousted from Vishwaroopam coz of busy schedule. Selvaragavan stated his commitment with Dhanush another 'family' flick.
June 13 --- First teaser released at Singapore Film Fare.
August 15 --- Theatrical trailer released.
October 2 --- Kamal announces the DTH release. Airtel was the first to advertise its release stating certain conditions wrt' pirate scare.
November 7 --- Auro 3D trailer released. KH flew in private helicopter madurai for his promotion. It was KH's Birthday.
November 14 --- Case filed against film for kamal's unpaid debt the previous producer.
December 6 --- Producers' Union declares their irk for DTH release.
January 3 --- Court slashes the debt plea & lets the film release.
January 14 --- Producer's union case advances to high court against the release of DTH release stating the decrease in their collection due to the DTH popularity in chennai. KH gives clear statistics of DTH possession in city and TN.
January 15 --- Muslim organisations declares the misinterpretation of religion. They reason which was putforward, wrong depiction of Islamic moralities.
January 19 --- Producer's Union withdraws the case as Kamal agrees to cancel the DTH release. KH also agrees to repay the bills to respective media corps instantly.
January 23 --- the Tamil Nadu Government banned the screening of Vishwaroopam for two weeks to maintain law and order, following protests by several Muslim outfits against the screening of the film, claiming that it depicted the community in negative light
January 24 --- Kamal Haasan moved the Madras High Court seeking an interim injunction against the 15-day ban imposed on the film by the TN Government.
January 25 --- Vishwaroopam released worldwide but not in Tamil Nadu. In Kerala, the film was released in more than 80 theatres in Kerala. The screening was stopped in Hyderabad over security issues.
January 26, Vishwaroopam was banned in Malaysia, a day after its release following a directive from the Home Ministry.
January 26 --- The court said it will make a decision by January 28 after watching the film on January 26.
January 28 --- Madras High Court deferred its order on Haasan’s plea questioning the TN Government’s ban on Vishwaroopam, till the next day.
January 30 --- Kamal Haasan threatened to leave the country if the ban on Vishwaroopam wasn’t lifted. The same day, the Madras High court lifted the ban on Vishwaroopam imposed by the TN Government. Islamists responded by hurling bombs at two theatres in the State.
January 31 ---Tamil Nadu Chief Minister defended her Government’s ban on Vishwaroopam, and said it was done based on intelligence inputs that warned of a threat to law and order in the State.
February 2 --- the deadlock over Vishwaroopam ended when Kamal Haasan agreed to make seven edits to the original version of the film. Haasan reached a settlement with Muslim groups, and said he would withdraw its petition in the Madras High Court.
February 4 --- Kamal Haasan withdrew his petition before the Madras High Court, after the State Government lifted the ban on Vishwaroopam. The film was slated to release in Tamil Nadu on February 7.
February 7 --- Vishwaroopam finally released in Tamil Nadu to packed theatres.
REVIEW:-
It will be an understatement to state, KH has got a profit for this flick, coz it is this decades success he has pocketed ! ofcourse, the sequel will be a much larger budget comparing to this. The screenplay and the cinematography is nevertheless comparable to hollywood adrenaline line-ups ! and that must be agreed without slightest doubt !
The story of the film is not much complex or a trend setter. The genre can be easily stated 'spy thrilller' accordingly.
For people who constantly dream of taking Indian cinema to the world arena or to so called 'Oscar race' this flick might be one portal ! or a sure shot ! but. . .
This is not actually a sure shot & the film shows the way of Back door to the path !
Damaging communism or blaming leftist philosophies & the important method -"portraying USSR " as a country constantly triying to end the world or to bring under its control might pave the way for winning a Booker Prize.
KH clearly reveals his stand and his ideas about Islam and terrorism which is way different lines.
When conveying emotional dialogues or performing in a fight sequence KH sizzles both as an Actor & a Director ! Even in the extraction of facial signs from fellow actors or in the placement of seens KH's toil as a director comes evidently. The film's quality comparable to Hollywood cannot be questioned as stated before but any kind of trend setting sequence or styles in camera handling is not found.
Coming to the BG score of the film, Shankar-Essan-Loy combo has defenitely failed ! The inability of the BG to compete with the pace of seens is in alarming state after the "evanendru ninaithaai" song! The left out trick of S-E-L is surely a debacle and it makes a common to wonder if he is watching a documentary. Because the silent treatment followed in first half when showing the Afgan residents has already failed and gives a yawn induction among audience.
Considering the Ideology, as previosly stated by KH in his 'unnai pol oruvan' to kill terrorists following their own way is followed in this film but with a coating of "high budget" . The Terrorist And Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) 1987 the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO), comes to our mind when we see the act of killing men without any trials or interrogations in UPO ! It is of much surprise why KH constantly wants the killing or punishing(as he says) is needed as its a highly elusive in a democracy & a mockery of Human Right. KH puts himself in a very contracdictory state when he wants his idea to be released as a cinema but don want ppl to be trialled when they are convicted !!!
Remember when KH remembered his sensation of uneasiness coz of 'sagalakalavallavan' by SP Muthuraman due to the imbecilic depiction of a very trivial matter in the big screen. He also stated that he always feared his downfall in getting a commercial thumbs up by ending up in such rubbish like the latter flick.
Though the film uses latest technology in its cinematography like the usage of RED camera, and the slow-motion takes & the graphics in which KH runs through hurdles in the terrorist training at Afgan, the film fails to convey a mouth opening or atleast talkable plot! The plot is ofcourse outdated, already chewed & now cudded by contemporary action films !
We see that KH is a muslim in the film actually but showing that "Islam" is the only string that connects all the people who work for terror or who are terrorists and showing KH himself killing those people though they are muslims. It is of much idiocracy that KH miscalculated tat the portrayal of himself as a Muslim might balance the morality.
A single Muslim killing the terrorist ?! Does that mean Muslims aint terrorist & he vouches so !!! pppoooff!! Utmost error and miscalculation.
The only jist that will be absorbed by any citizen or infants ( the film's got a U/A lol ) excluding the ppl who know the real scenario of world terrorism is that muslims are terrorists. an example of it is the Nigerian activating the bomb. ( y shud he be shown as muslim ? )And KH himself pleaded infront of media before the release that not a single seen against the muslims is been shown ! So, showing terrorist as muslims or muslims as terrorist is the only result of the film and the 2nd half in which the avenging of them only adds brick to the thought of it ! '& KH calls himself secular ' !!
In accordance to KH statement that "Anti - Islam" & "Humanity" (Avenging) is not the same - is really questioned by this film which was stated by Gnani & Manushyaputhiran.
It shows that KH has not even heared the names Majid Majidi & Mohsen Makhmalbaf Iranian film makers who have given best quality pictures like "Kandahar" which shows the right scenarios of terrorism, the cause for its rise, the world stand bout it. We wish KH studies them and develops himself to such standard of not getting a commercial victory by adopting a WRONG IDEOLOGY.
It is a must agreeable statement that some of the sequences gives us goosebumps in the manner of suspense and action pace !... that is one of the reasons of the film to be applauded!.
Nutshell: Best attempt of a single man who constantly tries to uplift Indian cinema to a higher slab in world getting distracted or adoption of a ambiguous ideology which is to be revised.
